The Tuesday “Beginning Watercolor” class is to understand the basics of the watercolor medium.

I am concentrating on teaching:

  • brushstrokes
  • washes
  • fun techniques to enjoy the watercolor
  • tints/shades
  • values
  • color wheel
  • mixing colors
  • how to paint different subjects

Supplies Needed

Bring:

  • 1) 2-containers for water ( could be plastic food containers)
  • 2) Palette ( could be store bought or a white plate)
  • 3) paper towels
  • 4) pencil 2B is fine
  • 5) pencil sharpener
  • 6) eraser, ruler, scissors
  • 7) ball point pen or stylus pen (used for embossing)
  • 8) small spray bottle for water
  • 9) old bath towel, gator board, plexiglass (artist tote board)
  • 10) artist tape
  • 11) Brushes – synthetic sable – Rounds sizes: 4, 6 and 8 and a rigger 0, 1,or 2 will do, 1”
  • flat 1/2”, 1”, 2” (if you prefer flats)
  • 12) Paints: watercolor preferably not student grade, but bring what you have of these colors: To mix blacks: I use these color combos
  • Burnt Sienna ( Quinacridone Burnt Orange)
  • Ultramarine Blue
  • Cadmium Red Light
  • Ultramarine Blue
  • Cadmium Red Light
  • Ultramarine Blue
  • Aureolin Yellow
  • Phthalo Green
  • Red Rose Deep
  • Cadmium Red Light
  • Phthalo Blue
  • Quinacridone Gold
  • We will need at least a Red, Blue, and yellow for the first day!
  • Other possible paints could be :
  • Burnt Umber, Paynes gray, Sepia, Anthraqueinone (M Graham) or roayal blue Holbien
  • or Indigo blue, Winsor & Newton Designers Gouache or an opaque white or any of your favorite colors
  • 13) Paper: Watercolor 140 LB cold press, or rough, 300 LB is fine if you prefer
  • 14) extra watercolor papers for practice
  • Please do not worry if you do not have these items I will have extras!
  • The important things is that we all have FUN with this class

About Lynda…

Lynda studied design and was a ballroom dancer for 20 years. She now explores ways to apply her love of animals and her experience with the outdoors. Her home in the forest and surrounding areas allow her unlimited settings which provide motivation for her artwork. She now shares her love of nature and passion for animals in watercolor.
Her art has been juried into numerous events and awarded both in local and national shows. She shows at galleries in the area including NVAL Carter House Gallery, Main Street Gallery, Snyder/Highland Art Center, OurSpace Gallery and the “O” Street Gallery in Redding, CA.
Lynda has published two books which include her animal paintings and famous quotes describing the love and curiosity for our furry friends. She teaches watercolor workshops in the area and a weekly Watercolor class to teach the fluid brushstrokes of watercolor into magic that bring peace and harmony to our lives.
